EXPIRED MAKEUP

13.05.2019

If you are like us and love buying new makeup and trying it all as soon as you get home then this blog post might be in your interest.

Many people do not know this but makeup does actually have an expiration date. Using these products after these dates could be very harmful for your skin, as i've experienced myself. After using an out of date concealer my skin broke out really bad and took ages to clear up again. I realised it was the concealer because i've had it way over a year. It wasn't until this incident that i realised how serious expiration dates were.
This is why i'm here today to help you know and understand everything there is to know about makeup expiration dates. Below is an image of what we will find on every single beauty product we own, this means once open, this products lasts and can be used for either one, three, six, twelve, eighteen or eight months. After this period of time the product will be considered out of date and could harm your skin and will not perform as good as it did before.

All beauty products roughly have the same expiration date. I'm here to give you an insight on what products last the longest and what ones you might need to get rid of ASAP!

I'll break it down and make it super simple for you so you can check out all of your stuff.

Here is a rundown of all the products we use on a daily basis:

  • Concealer: 1 year

  • Foundation: 1 year

  • Mascara: 3 months

  • Liquid eyeliner: 3 months

  • Eyeshadow: 1 year

  • Lipstick: 2 year

  • Lip gloss: 1 year

  • Makeup sponge: 1 month

  • Powder: 1 year

  • Nail polish: 1 year

These dates may vary as it depends on the brand and all of the components that the products has, for example, if it is a brand that uses natural products the dates could be significantly shorter but, by law, companies must state on every product the time the product is valid for.

There are so many other products, not so much beauty related but products that we use everyday that also go out of date quicker than we think. Here are some that you might be interested in:
